Hardinville, Tennessee
Hardinville or Hardinsville was a town founded in 1817 "near the confluence of Turkey and Boone's Creeks" in Hardin County, Tennessee east of the Tennessee River. It was incorporated by the state legislature on October 24, 1824.〔"Chapter XIX" ''Acts of the State of Tennessee Passed by the Forty-Second General Assembly. 1881.'' Nashville: Tavel & Howell, Printers To The State, 1881; vol. 2, p. 20〕 On March 3, 1825, the Congress of the United States passed a law establishing a number of post roads, including one "From Hardinsville''()'', by M'Nairy Courthouse, and Hardiman Courthouse, to Tipton Courthouse." and another "From Hardinville, to Florence, Alabama."〔Eighteenth Congress, Session II, Chap. XLVI.—An Act to establish certain post-roads, and to discontinue others. March 3, 1825〕
Hardinville served as the first county seat of Hardin County; but at the urgings of the settlers west of the Tennessee, the seat was moved to Rudd's Ferry (later Savannah) in 1829.〔("Hardin County". ''Tennessee Encyclopedia of History and Culture'' online )〕 By the time of the Civil War, the former Hardinville had been renamed ''Old Town''.〔''History of Tennessee : From the Earliest Time to the Present; Together with an Historical and a Biographical Sketch of Henderson, Chester, McNairy, Decatur, and Hardin Counties.'' Nashville: Goodspeed Pub. Co., 1886. pp. 829-841〕
The approximate location of the settlement is Latitude: 35.2234138 - Longitude: -88.1461448, on what is now Old Town Loop roughly ten kilometers east of Savannah.〔("Tennessee: Old Town - Tennessee" ''Satelliteviews.net'' accessed November 9, 2010 )〕
